When the last bell of the school year rings, a lot of the information over the year escapes the students’ minds. Rightfully so. Adults and kids alike need to enjoy their well-deserved break. However, summer learning loss can be a concern for the upcoming year. If there are a couple of rainy days during your break, having these in hand to stimulate your child’s mind can help wonders come August or September. Have a wonderful and adventure-filled break. 😎
Cursive is not in a lot of school curricula. However, I found students liked to learn to write their letters and strive to be able to read cursive. I used sheets like these after test days or if a student needed time to decompress.
In elementary school, I had to practice my scissors skills (being left-handed did not help this one bit). It can help with the concentration and fine motor skills of younger children.
Reading any books (or books!) for the summer is wonderful. In case you would like a starting point this was always a well requested book and picked up by many students year after year during reading time. For reluctant readers graphic novels or magazines of topics that interest them can spark their excitement to learn.
Dog Ate My Mad Libs: World's Greatest Word Game Paperback – Coloring Book, May 26, 2015
Getting the family involved in some silly mad libs can help spark storytelling and creativity. There are various topics, but I find the sillier the better in the mad libs department.
First Grade Big Fun Workbook (Highlights™ Big Fun Activity Workbooks) Paperback – August 22, 2017
I remember this magazine company as a child and have my little one receiving their subscription too. I picked one grade in particular for fun, quick, and engaging activities. When browsing, they have many other subjects and grade levels to choose from.
I have may have been much better in math if these cool trivia games were around. I like this game has different levels of difficulty as well.
These cards are for more simple math skills. However, the basics are essential to understanding any subject and if you want your child to have an engaging and colorful review of math during the summer this would be a great buy.
Yet another math game I wish was around when I was younger. This seems to also have the speed factor involved as well for a fast-paced game.
There may be more time for your child to showcase their talents in the kitchen. Enjoy some great treats and snacks this summer too!
I wanted to bring another option to the cooking options. Of course, your kids can be inspired by their favorite Food Network stars too.
Arts and crafts are a great way to showcase talent and a great activity if the weather is not cooperative. This seems to have many different craft options to choose from to cater to different interests.
This looks to like a good baseline for children to learn about the continents and oceans. Also a free tip: You can fill a blue balloon with air and then softly outline the continents. Then initial them and do a quick balloon toss quizzing each other.
The United States Activity and Fact Book Paperback – Illustrated, September 28, 2020
This is quick book for students to learn more about all the states in the US. Some adults do not know key parts of the US map. It will be a good confidence builder and connect to many contents.
It is important to be knowledgeable about our world. It is important to be able to understand key events and converse with people of various backgrounds. Getting a good game going one day would be a great way to learn and polish up on world knowledge.
If you are taking your children to the National Parks this can be a great add-on to document the journey. I like this one because of park images have color to showcase the beauty of nature.
Have a wonderful summer break! Find time to relax and maybe a couple of rainy days to have fun engaging your children’s minds.☀️
